For those of you who live in Canada, you may have heard of T.E.A.M Dog Rescue, a Toronto registered non-profit organization set up to provide a safe haven for dogs while they wait for their “furever” homes. Their goal is to educate, end cruelty and fight the stigma placed on shelter dogs. T.E.A.M works hard to match each dog with the perfect foster and/or adoptive home to ensure that the specific needs of both the animal and family are met.
T.E.A.M Dog Rescue is launching their 2016 Calendar titled “K9&Kids In the City” on December 9th, 2015. All proceeds from the sale of these calendars will benefit the dogs TEAM Dog Rescue has in foster care and those awaiting rescue.
It was a privilege to have my daughter be part of the photo shoot for their 2016 calendar. This year, the calendar has a new component – they are incorporating the #THINKRESCUE campaign. The idea of #THINKRESCUE was born out of a need for change – changing the perception of rescue dogs and to remind everyone to consider rescuing first when looking to add a furry family member. The calendar featuring children with TEAM Alumni’s has a meaning of teaching compassion and empathy of furry friends at a very young age.
All children in the calendar are wearing clothing from Mini Mioche, a Toronto based collection of kids organic cotton basics. Mini Mioche has partnered with T.E.A.M Dog Rescue to design and sell a limited edition shirt for children promoting the #THINKRESCUE campaign (the image featured on the shirt is Daisy – a Mastiff/X who entered TEAM’s foster program after having spent close to 2 years at a shelter – she was adopted in Oct 2015). The graphic on this shirt is designed by Maggie Deuitch and it can be purchased on Mini Mioche’s website with 100% of proceeds from the sale being donated to the care of dogs in T.E.A.M’s adoption program and helping other animals in need.
Ava was paired with TEAM Alumni Smooch. (Smooch previously lived with a family who was moving and chose not to take him along. Instead of attempting to find him a new home or take him to a shelter, they decided to just let him “be free”. T.E.A.M could not bear the thought of this sweet boy being left on the streets of Toronto in the dead of winter so they stepped in. Now Smooch is being spoiled rotten and very much a loved member of a family).
